SENIOR MENS ROUNDUP

Friday, 01 November 2013 17:32

A week off this week for the first XV has been very welcome. Malahide visit Ashtown Lane on Sunday. This is simply a must win game for Wicklow who despite their difficult start will hope to force their way into contention by the end of the league campaign. It is likely that the top 6 teams will all take points off each other so if and when Wicklow string a couple of wins together they will find themselves right back in the hunt. Wicklow RFC are urging all their supporters to come to Ashtown Lane on Sunday for the Malahide clash and to get behind this team and give them the support they deserve.

Wicklows second XV also endured a disappointing afternoon at the hands of  Athy going down by 23 - 21. Having led 26-6 thanks to a strong first half breeze Athy came back strongly in the second half to nick it with a late try.

Sunday November 3rd

Wicklow 2nds home v Malahide KO 1pm

Wicklow 1sts Home v Malahide KO 2.30pm

NB PLEASE NOTE  KICK OFF TIMES HAVE CHANGED TO 1PM AND 2.30PM

Monkstown RFC  1st XV  29                    Wicklow 1st XV 9

Wicklow 1st XV travelled away to Monkstown to take on the favourites for the League in their own backyard. With the team dogged by injuries and smarting from a last minute loss the previous weekend Wicklows  hardy band of supporters travelled in hope rather than expectation. The team produced an excellent performance in difficult circumstances leading for 70 minutes before the wheels came off in the final ten minutes.

YOUR CLUB YOUR COUNTRY DRAW

Friday, 18 October 2013 16:30

Wicklow RFC is again taking part in the IRFU  "YOUR CLUB YOUR COUNTRY" Draw. The draw has becopme one of our 5 big fundraisers during the year. It is crucial to the success and viability of the club. The best thing about this draw is that 100% of every €10 ticket sold by Wicklow RFC will go directly to the club. The IRFU are providing the prizes.

alt

This is a great opportunity for the club to raise much needed funds and also gives you the chance to win one of the fantastic prizes on offer. The club are also putting up 2 extra prizes for WRFC members only. A pair of tickets for the Leinster V Northampton game in the Aviva on Dec 14th and a voucher for €100 for the club shop.

Our aim is to sell 1000 tickets at €10 each. If all playing members sell 2 tickets each we will raise €10,000. The club are asking all our players and members to please support this fundraising initiative. We will not be holding a Christmas Raffle this year so we would really appreciate your support to make this draw a huge success.  We are also looking for volunteers to take a book of tickets and sell them at work etc. If you can help please contact Bert Nicholson in the Club Shop, President Colin Kingston or Stephen Clarke.

Wicklow 1st XV 21                            Ashbourne RFC  1st XV  28

Wicklow 1st XV suffered a heartbreaking defeat against league leaders Ashbourne at Ashtown Lane on Sunday. Having played really well and got themselves into a strong position to win the match a combination of bad luck,  injuries  and ill discipline, contrived to see Ashbourne snatch a win with the last play of the game.

alt

Wicklow played with the wind in the first half and had the lead after 10 minutes from  a Niall Earls penalty despite having a man sent to the bin for being offside at a ruck.
