Towns Cup Semi Final Sunday April 7th

This  Sunday April 7th Wicklow RFC first XV take on Longford RFC in the Semi final of the Bank of Ireland, Provincial Towns Cup. The game is being played in Naas RFC at 3pm.

Wicklow have had an excellent season to date, finishing second in Leinster League Division 1A behind a powerful Enniscorthy side and reaching the All Ireland Cup Semi Final and the South East Final. They had a good away win against Tullow in the second round before beating Dundalk in front of a large home crowd at Ashtown Lane on St Patricks day

An impressive Longford side have had an outstanding season to date, finishing runners up in Division 1B. They hammered Tullow in Tullow in the Leinster league and have comfortably dispatched Division 1A sides Boyne and Kilkenny to date in the cup. They took on another 1A side Bective RFC in a promotion/relegation play off on Saturday to decide who plays in 1A next season and lost narrowly with the last kick of the game. Both of Wicklows fixtures against Bective this season were one score games.  The men from the midlands will provide the sternest of tests for Wicklow who having lost semi finals to Skerries in 2017 and Tullow in 2018 will be desperate not to go out at the penultimate  stage for the third year in a row.

Waiting in the final for the winners are a powerful Enniscorthy side who easily dispatched Gorey  by 20 - 5 in the other semi final last weekend. Enniscorthy now face into the AIL qualifying round robin the winner of the series will play in the AIL next season. The Wexfordmen  beat Ulster Champions Instonians away from home on Saturday and on current form it looks like no one will stop them from reaching the goal of AIL rugby at long last.

Wicklow are asking all of our supporters to turn out to support this team in the drive for the final. Longford are sure to travel in huge numbers and Niall Earls and his team are going to need your support. . Kick off is at 3pm.
